Sleek Candy Collection Palette Review & Swatches

I was so excited to find out that Sleek had released a new, bright coloured palette that actually ships to Canada! This palette is called the i-Divine Candy Collection Palette, and is limited edition. Sleek also released 2 other limited edition products to go alongside with this palette; the Pout Paint Lol-Lip-Pop and Blush by 3 in Sweet Cheeks. The Pout Paint in Lol-Lip-Pop is a bright and fun baby pink. The Blush by 3 in Sweet Cheeks is a 3 pan blush with 1 cream, 1 shimmer, and 1 matte blush!

The palette is said to have sweet sorbet shades that look good enough to eat! I think I'd rather eat what's on the packaging though :p

I really adore the box this palette comes in! It looks fun and eye-catching, and I was hoping the palette would be somewhat similar..

So the actual palette is Sleek's typical matte black casing! Bummer, I was hoping for something a little brighter but that's ok!

The palette has a few different types of shadows, the main focus is on the matte shadows, but there are a few shimmer and pearl/frost type shadows.

Strawberry Sorbet: Matte Pink, there is a little more shimmer to it compared to the other colours, but I wouldn't say its completely a satin.

Bon Bon: A shimmery light mauve

Parma Violet: Matte Dark Purple, good for the crease/a purple smokey eye

Apple Sour: A vibrant mint shade that looks like a frost to me, 

Pear Drop: A satin green leaning towards the yellow side 

Flump: Matte purple that would work well with Parma Violet

Liquorice // Blue Fizzle // Aniseed // Bubble Gum // Mint Cream // Cream Soda

Swatched over Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer

Liquorice: Matte faded black, only colour I am really disappointed with, it does not seem opaque at all.

Blue Fizzle: A satin navy blue

Aniseed: Shimmer/frosty darker pink with gold shimmer, reminds me of the Nars Orgasm blush but darker :p

Bubble Gum: Vibrant matte blue

Mint Cream: Matte teal

Cream Soda: A satin white shade, ideal for highlighting the brow bone.

I was expecting a bit better but I am impressed with the colour payoff except for Liquorice, but when doing eye looks I noticed that the colours were easiest to be applied with my finger, and required a bit of layering for them to be opaque. I thought they were a bit more vibrant over a white base. I don't think I would use them without a white base actually, after seeing how much better and more vibrant the colours go on with it. I definitely prefer it over a regular, clear/skin coloured primer. The only issue with using a shadow stick pencil as a base is the longevity and how long it would hold before creasing.

Here are a couple looks I did... just testing out the colours! Both were done over NYX Shadow Pencil in Milk (a white base).

I definitely wouldn't use colours like these on a daily basis. I am typically a neutral type of girl. It seems a little difficult to use these colours together because they are so different, but they are definitely an affordable asset to my eyeshadow collection.

At only $10, the Candy Collection Palette is the same price as all of Sleek's other palettes but again is only a limited edition palette. Shipping to Canada was roughly $4.30 for 2 items, which is very inexpensive! It also took about a week which really surprised me, as I was expecting to wait at least 2! If you are out of the UK and have always wanted to try one of Sleek's colourful palettes I would pick one up as this actually ships internationally, unlike their other ultra matte bright palettes. If you already own a handful of them, there may not be a need to pick up another, unless you are looking for colours that are bright but not so neon!

Revlon Selects: Chroma Chameleon Rose Gold Nail Enamel Review

I am probably about the worst person to review nail polish. First of all, I can barely explain the 'textures', and I likely can't describe colours either! So that is why I provide you with lots of pictures! One picture is worth a thousand words right? Heh..

I am a part of the Revlon Selects, and I did my review on some things we were sent back in January which you can see here. We were recently surprised with this new Chroma Chameleon polish in Rose Gold!

Above are pictures of the polish from a view of what the majority of people will see, and that is mainly the gold tone. In the dark and in artificial lighting, the gold takes over, and it is much harder to see the duo-chrome effect. I would describe it as a deep or darker gold?

I used 3 coats to get an opaque colour. I did not use a base or top coat. I found that when adding more coats, the gold became darker or more vibrant. The undertones/chromes of this enamel can be described better as a green with a little bit of blue, but definitely doesn't look like the bottle. 

The green/blue duo-chrome is not as noticeable as it looks like it would be from a glance at the bottle. You can see the duo-chrome when viewing my fingers on an angle, such as the 2 photos above :p

To me, this doesn't look too much like a Rose Gold. Pink Quartz from this Chroma Chameleon line looks more to me like a Rose Gold. 

I think I might like the other colours from this line a little more! I am not too fond of the green/blue tint and I wish it was a little more girly! I do really like the fact that the polish is not too thick, but I don't like that it takes 3 coats to become opaque, I am a very impatient person :p It did however, last about 4 days before minor chipping on the fingers that I use the most which was pretty impressive. 

I hope in the future, duo-chrome polishes (for all brands!) can be a bit more noticeable from farther away, because I know the people that I asked had a hard time seeing any other colour but gold on my finger nails!

Batiste Dry Shampoo Review

Batiste is internationally known for their dry shampoo, which has recently become a big hit with women of all ages. I actually was not too big on Batiste, or any dry shampoo for that matter, until I really experimented with this one. I realized it really does work, and I was just not using it the right way.

On their website they currently have 14 different types of dry shampoo! How different can you really make dry shampoo!? It seems as if the reason for this is the variation of scents, such as cherry and tropical. A few of them actually have different properties, such as the XXL Volume which, obviously is suppose to give you volume, and the coloured ones for blonde, medium, and dark brown hair.

I do have the XXL Volume, which is what led me to initially dislike Batiste. However, after spraying the 'Original' at different distances from my hair, I realize the product needs to be sprayed very close to the hair so that you can see the powder for it to work for me.

The product comes in a hairspray type can, and it definitely sprays out like it is too! I found it to be quite powerful and you have to wave your arms quickly while holding the trigger so you can distribute the powder evenly!

I put this dry shampoo to the ultimate test by using it on 3rd day hair, 2nd day hair, and 2 days in a row. But I only have example photos from one test where I used it on 3rd day hair below! I have also brightened the exposure on a few of the photos below, oh, and blurred out my skin as I was not wearing makeup and I don't want to showcase my terrible, pimply forehead!

I put it EVERYWHERE. Looks a little bit silly when you first spray it on, I feel like a skunk, or like I effed up on highlighting my hair, but you definitely need to take some time to work out the white powder. I found that it took a little time to finger comb out the white powder, which is fine for me, but might be time consuming for others.

I know some people don't need to use this much for the product to work, but through trial and error I found that using this much was really the only way that worked for me!

Above are photos of my 3rd try using this. I actually noticed a huge difference. The oiliness of my hair was gone, and I did not have to wash my hair to look presentable for public :p I do think I used a lot of product though, but it definitely worked! There is a powdery residue which can look like dandruff on my hair. I tried to work it out as best as I could but I definitely do not think this is ideal if you are going to get photographed! Can you see how lightened my hair looks? It definitely did add a little 'dullness' to my colour and you can see that my scalp is lighter because I got some of the dry shampoo on it.

You can definitely use less product than I did, where you won't have as much white residue to work out, but I found that using less was not working for me and my hair would still look oily.

I also tried this product 2 days in a row on 2nd and 3rd day hair and the dry shampoo did last me throughout the day. The next day I still felt presentable, but I put a little more on closest to my forehead, because that is where I run my fingers through my hair the most. The 4th day I actually still felt ok to leave the house, but my hair was looking pretty dull and dry and definitely needed a wash! It was impressive to see that the dry shampoo actually did make a difference, I usually can't go past 2 days without it looking pretty bad. 

My Conclusion: I do really like this dry shampoo, although it does give my hair a little dullness and I wish it gave me volume. Used properly, this definitely works, although like I said, it takes a lot of 'running your fingers through' to get the white residue out (or at least most of it out). This isn't ideal for me on a night out or where I am going to be photographed, but good for a typical day where you still want to look presentable but are too lazy to wash your hair! The white residue does look a little like dandruff, so you need to run your fingers through and get enough of it out, or 'rubbed in' I guess you can say. If you have dandruff or a dry scalp the powder may latch onto it and make your scalp look drier, so try to avoid the scalp! I need to spray close to the head, to get enough powder on my hair. I still don't think I got all of the white residue out, but enough that people will not notice! Update: The can does not last long at all. I have already gone through about 3-4. It is pricey for the amount of product in the can but it is worth it and I will continue to purchase it.

I know this dry shampoo is not a miracle and cannot cure my oily hair but it definitely has helped during those days where I don't want to wash it (aka third or second day hair). I will continue to use it when I notice my hair getting oily. You can find Batiste products and many other beauty brands such as EcoTools and Real Techniques on FarleyCo.ca

Ipsy: June 2013 Glam Bag

It's kind of a ritual for me to post what I received in my monthly beauty box subscriptions on here! Ipsy is my only sub at the moment, and I'm glad I narrowed it down to one I am most happy with. I know quite a few people received different items, or different shades of an item in their bags this month (and the last!) Ipsy seems to be trying to personalize your selections to your beauty profile, and while this is a great gesture, it definitely needs some organization! 

I tried to post the photos in order of the spoilers that Ipsy released!

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Bronze Goddess: This cream blush, or should I say bronzer.. looks a little to dark for me in the pan. One of the ladies on a group I am in on facebook kindly showed me her swatches, and it doesn't look as scary dark as it does in the pan. I may decide to try it, but me and cream blush/bronzers don't really go too well, so.. we'll see!

Starlooks Lip Liner in Bare: I have nothing from this company which I hear is comparable to MAC, so I was disappointed to get this in a colour I will not use. This looks to me like a mauvey brown to me :( and I don't even see this colour on their website anymore! If I can't trade someone for a different colour, I will likely just end up trying it out.

J. Cat Beauty Sparkling Cream Palette in SCP106 Volta: Said to be a creamy glittery palette so you can easily apply the glitter on your body or face. At first, this looks like an eye palette, which I would have been okay with, but ipsy has stated that it is not intended for use on the eyes, but rather as body glitter. I will likely give this to my neighbour's kids.. after seeing a few swatches, I am not too impressed and they could probably have a lot more fun with it then I can!

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter: A light-peach neutral coloured pencil  for use on the brow bone, dark circles, blemishes and red spots. I definitely will do a review on this! I really hate the smell (I hate the smell of pencils, reminds me of elementary school) but I love how easily this glides on my skin! Its super creamy and the colour is the same if not slightly lighter than my skin tone. I have been using it directly under my brows and it is definitely helping to define the shape of them.

J. Cat Beauty Eyelashes in EL01 + Eyelash Glue: At first I was kinda bummed about getting eyelashes, but after feeling how soft they are, they are definitely the type of eyelashes I would wear. They are actually human hair (is that weird?) and come with a tiny tube of latex-free glue! They are very very delicate however! I already ripped a little off one of the edges, but thankfully I have to cut them anyway to fit my eye-shape better.

Buffalo Haul

I actually got to go across the border to Buffalo, NY, twice this week! Although the first time was for a commercial pickup, and I did not have the opportunity to stop anywhere besides Target... It's too bad I wasn't the one driving hehe. But I luckily got to go back for the weekend :)

Anyway, not so lucky, because my company was not exactly the 'shopping' type. Although I did pick up quite a few things I was looking for and many that I cannot get here in Canada.

I did not include the clothes I bought in this post. I will do a separate post where I am able to show how the clothes look on me!

I'll start with my Target purchases!

Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color in Pink Punch: I took a chance with this lipstick and it is quite bright/vibrant on my lips! I do like it however, and I think it looks great when I mix it with a little lighter pink.
Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss: I don't like lip balms where you have to use your finger, but I wanted something different. I'm glad I chose this as it smells amazing!
EOS Lip Balm in Pomegranate Rasberry: This was a last minute impulse buy at the checkout! I saw it and had to have it to add to my collection!

Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Vitalizing Body Gel Oil: I saw a vlogger rave about this, I can't remember which one but I had to get it! I love the Vaseline Cocoa scent but I have no use for any of their other products, so I'm glad I found this.
Suave Dry Shampoo Spray: This was a little under $3 which I thought was a steal for a dry shampoo.   I can't wait to get up a review about it!
Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Clear Mist Spray Sunscreen SPF 15: I liked that this said 'clear mist' as I hate having to rub in the sunscreen after I spray it on (even though I know you should anyway). Also I hate the smell of sunscreen, so I figured this to be the best smelling one in the store!
*Bonus* Free Hawaiian Tropic Lip Balm SPF 45: I got a free bonus lip balm with the sunscreen! I will definitely be using this for the beach and tanning.

Curel Hand & Cuticle Therapy and Foot Therapy Set: I heard some good things about this foot cream from those who got it in their Glossybox in the past (I believe). Not sure if I am noticing am improvement yet but my dry spots do feel a bit softer.

Anddd just some snacks! I really do not like the Starbucks Very Berry Hibiscus. There are 6 flavoured powder pouches in this box, for a whopping $7! I like that it is naturally sweetened with cane sugar, but  to me this tastes terrible! There is ginger in it and all I can taste is the ginger. I also learnt after I bought this that green coffee extract is ideal for losing weight, which is not what I want to do! I will be giving this to my aunt, who actually loves the taste of ginger! I had to get the Ice Breakers Watermelon because I haven't seen it in Canada, and these are my HG mints! Also picked up this amazing popcorn! It is a little pricey but the best popcorn I've ever had! I can't even explain, its buttery and salty, but not overly salty. If you love popcorn I'd suggest trying out Pop Secret Homestyle if you ever spot it!

Then I went to Sally's Beauty, mainly to pick up the Wet Brush! I'm so happy I got my hands on one because I haven't seen them in Canada. I love it so far, it easily detangles my hair.

This Palladio Rice Powder and Rice Paper looked interesting, and it was $3 off 2 Palladio products so I picked up both. I also got this $2 Beauty Secrets Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover. Not sure how well it works but it doesn't have that great of reviews on MUA, oh no!

I went to Dollar Tree and got both of these for $1 each. Sorry the packaging is a bit ugly! I was too eager, and had already opened them!

At the Fashion Outlets Mall, I just picked up this Yankee Candle for $5! It is a decent size, says it will burn for 35-45 hours. I had to be held back from getting anymore!

I tried this Arizona Sparkling Drink before, in Cherry or Rasberry, and it was alright but I didn't find it to be flavourful enough! I saw that they now have a few more flavours, and I got this one. Hey, it was only $.99!

I wanted A LOT of things at Ulta but I limited myself and ended up with only two of these Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrubs. Top is Coconut Lime and bottom is Tropical Mango. Thank you Beauty Box 5 for introducing me to this amazing stuff!

And of course I had to get my 5 for $5 sanitizers from Bath and Body Works! They are 3 for $5 in Canada, so I always try pick some up when I go to the States. They are so addicting!

I hope this wasn't too boring! I didn't really get any makeup products, but I limited myself to things I will use! I will definitely get my clothing haul up soon!

My Experience With A False Fiber Mascara

I have noticed quite a few promotions going on about false fiber lash mascaras, and I realized that I never had the chance to write about my experience with this type of mascara.

I had quite a bad experience with a false fiber lash mascara about a year ago! However, these pictures are not of the fiber lash mascara. Just using them for something to look at!

I do not remember the exact mascara that I tried out. I probably would not call it out even if I did because I actually LOVED it. I began to use it daily. I loved this new technology and thought it was just about the best idea ever, next to putting on fake eyelashes.

If you don't know what a false fiber lash mascara is.. it basically is a mascara with a mixture of a bunch of various sized tiny fibers in it. The fibers add thickness and can also elongate your lashes.

I have thin, sparse, straight asian lashes and this mascara did wonders for me. It really lengthened and thickened them, more than I can get with a normal mascara, obviously due to the fibers that you are adding onto your lashes. As you can see above, my lashes are thin, boring and straight (this picture was taken today). I also clearly had trouble removing my mascara from the night before :p

But after a few weeks of use, I went from loving this mascara to hating it :(

One day, my eye felt very uncomfortable and I couldn't figure out why. I thought it was one of those little bumps (cysts?) that you can get on your waterline from bacteria, so I didn't think too much of it.

That night I realized there was no bump and that something must be in my eye. After minutes of staring into my eye I noticed a tiny fiber in it! Now, these fibers are such tiny things, and it stuck to my eye like glue. I was rubbing, wiping, using my finger and a q-tip to try and get it out for hours. Nothing worked and I was very frustrated. I'm pretty sure I started crying... I'm a big baby shh. It was just taking so much time and I was getting nowhere.. except putting it further into places in my eye that I could not get to (it ended up on the very inside of my bottom lash line).

I gave up hoping it would somehow come out overnight but unfortunately the next morning it was still there, bugging me even more now. I was so determined to get it out this time so I stood in front of the mirror for an hour, trying to get it closer to my waterline so I could get it out with a q-tip. I finally was able to wipe it out, it hurt but it was finally gone! 

I was just so unhappy that I had to stress myself out so much to do this! And I couldn't believe how hard it was to get out one tiny little fiber. I threw out the mascara right away and didn't even wear eye makeup that day because I felt like my eye was sore from me rubbing and playing around with it for the past 24 hours! 

This has never happened to me with a regular mascara. Even getting invisible fluffs in my eye isn't even close to that bad. I have a fear of fiber mascaras now and I will never buy one again. I don't know if this is a practical mascara because if this happened so easily to me, it likely will happen to others. And it is definitely a pain in the butt to get out.

It is a great invention, but definitely not for me. If you use these, be careful! And I hope this doesn't typically happen so it doesn't happen to you!

Empties #3: May 2013

These aren't actually only my MAY empties.. but they've been accumulated from the past few months since my last empties post.. (which was February, oopsies)

Bath & Body Works Stress Relief Eucalyptus Body & Shine Shampoo: Okay I can admit I did notice a bit of volume with this! Nothing drastic though. I love the smell of eucalyptus, it helps me relax. I would buy again as a body wash or something, because I didn't really like my hair smelling minty :p
Purchase? Maybe, as a body wash?

Pantene Aqua Light Silicone Free Shampoo: This definitely wasn't anything special for me and and didn't feel very weightless like it claims to be. It was just a regular shampoo to me.
Purchase? No

Pantene Aqua Light Conditioner: Nothing special either, I am just pretty neutral about it. 

Purchase? No

Coolway Boost: Smells like sweet tart flavoured medicine.. I don't really know what this is suppose to do besides condition. I think it is suppose to make blow drying and flat ironing easier on your hair. Regardless it didn't do anything for me, didn't make my hair smooth or soft, is pricey, and I had to apply a lot of it. 

Purchase? No

Tresemme Split Remedy Shampoo/Conditioner: Claims reduces up to 80% of split ends after 3 uses. Okay, I'm not sure but maybe I did notice my ends looking a little better? Regardless I didn't get any volume from this product which is what I am more concerned about, so I wouldn't buy it.
Purchase? No

La Coupe Volume Shampoo/Conditioner: I really like this, and I have tried it before and it does give me much needed volume. It is affordable as well. I will definitely buy this and see if it works for me in the long run!
Purchase? Yes

Free Your Mane Sulfate Free Shampoo/Detangling Conditioner: I would definitely need to try this more to see if I liked it. I don't normally use sulfate-free products so I wasn't sure what to think of this. It wasn't amazing though, but there are a lot of oil type ingredients and protein in both the shampoo and conditioner!

Purchase? No, would need to try a bigger sample. 

Nude Perfect Cleansing Oil for Face & Eyes: I love the scent and texture of this. I also like the lack of too many ingredients. If they took out the fragrance, it would be even better for my skin! But I don't know if I can justify spending almost $50 on a bottle of this. It did take off all my makeup and eyeshadow, except not so much my waterproof eyeliner!
Purchase? Not likely.

Pure + Simple Sensitive Skin Face Wash: I got this in my SwagBag from the Beauty Board Event that I went to at the beginning of May. I didn't think it would work but I really like it! It does remove my makeup, although it takes 2 tries to completely get it off. The scent is lemony and a lot of the ingredients are pretty natural (or so they seem!). It hasn't broken me out, but hasn't prevented my regular breakouts either. I don't blame it though, because it isn't medicated. Anyway, I will make my way downtown to their store to purchase this asap!
Purchase? Yes!

Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator: I didn't like this before and thought it broke me out, but gave it another try. Haven't noticed any major breakouts from it this time. I do notice it feels a bit rough on my skin and I have to be gentle when using it.
Purchase? Maybe in the future, if I still don't get any breakouts and when I finish up some of my other exfoliant samples.

Yves Rocher Express Eye Makeup Remover: This is like my HG eye makeup remover. It is very oily but quick. I still have a hard time removing waterproof mascara but I haven't found anything better yet! Especially for the $5ish price tag!
Purchase? Yes! I stockpile on these.

Simply Delicate Feminine Cleansing Cloths 24 wipes: My aunt got me these through Avon. Uhm.. not sure if they still have them!? But I assume these are a bit old heh.. probably shouldn't have been using them.. but they are pH balanced, gynecologist-tested, and hypoallergenic!
Purchase? Yes! If they still sell them. 

Ahava DeadSea Water Mineral Hand Cream: I thought this smelt a little too mature for me, it is thick and I don't really like it. I pretty much had friends finish it for me! The tiny sample tube did last forever though.
Purchase? No

Dove Go Fresh Burst Body Wash, Nectarine & White Ginger Scent: I really liked the scent at first, but then I started to dislike how creamy it was, and the scent started to seem artificial to me. I don't know. I don't really favour it, and it is a little pricey when it isn't on sale.
Purchase? No

Clearly I have an issue with using up full sized products.. but that's ok! I need to shop my sample stash for a while as I have way too many small samples to use up right now.
