Philosophy Purity Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel

Philosophy Purity Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel for Face and Eyes Review

Purity is a VERY well known cleansing line by the brand Philosophy, often spotted on the shelves of Sephora. You may be familiar with the Purity Made Simple that comes in a bottle, but I have a feeling this tube packaging might add a bit of confusion! This is the Purity Made Simple Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel for Face and Eyes, a slightly different product than the Purity we are all used to.

Philosophy Purity Foaming 3-in-1 Cleansing Gel for Face and Eyes Review

This cleansing gel comes in a 225 ml/7.5 fl. oz squeeze tube for $28 CAD, and can get a little messy but oh do I like it! It removes all of my foundation, eyeshadow and liner but it isn't a miracle worker so it doesn't get my waterproof mascara offIt lathers well and I can see the tube lasting quite a while. I dislike the tube packaging for such a runny product because it can get pretty messy, and wish it came with a pump.

This is something you NEED if you want a cleanser to completely remove your foundation and most of your eye makeup, but you just aren't feeling a cleansing oil. Personally, I just don't always want to use a cleansing oil because it tends to be messier. This is super effective at removing makeup and leaves the skin feeling clean. My favourite way of using this is to use a cleansing oil first, and then go in with the Purity cleansing gel to make sure all traces of my foundation are off so there are no chances of my pores getting clogged at night. It does cleanse strongly so it is necessary to add a moisturizer back onto the face afterwards.

Tips:
If you just strictly want to remove your makeup with this, one lather and rinse will likely be fine for minimal makeup wearers.
If you are wearing heavy foundation and makeup I would suggest cleansing with this twice, or double cleansing with a cleansing oil first!

Find it at Hudson's Bay in Canada.

Jurlique Nourishing Cleansing Oil & Herbal Recovery Advanced Eye Serum

jurlique nourishing cleansing oil and herbal recovery advanced eye serum review

Jurlique is a natural skin care brand that has been in the works for over 25 years. An Australian company that focuses on healthy, organic and natural ingredients. They actively give back to the environment and work to reduce and reuse as much as they can. I have here the Purely Age-Defying Nourishing Cleansing Oil and Herbal Recovery Advanced Eye Serum. Cleansing oils are quite new to me but so far I've had great experiences with the ones I've tried. They are so essential to a routine especially if you like to wear a lot of makeup and are constantly removing and re-applying.

Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Nourishing Cleansing Oil (200ml) $38 usd

Jurlique's Nourishing Cleansing Oil contains so many potent and beneficial ingredients to 'replenish, nourish, and smooth appearance of visible lines and wrinkles". Some key ingredients include Licorice Root Extract, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, xSafflower Oil, Caster Seed Oil, Beach Tree Bud, Vit. E. Full ingredients list below. This is artificial ingredient free, so no mineral oil, sulfates, silicones, parabens!

This cleansing oil feels so soothing when it touches my face. Especially if using a makeup remover beforehand, this will be such a treat for the skin. My skin does not feel dry afterwards nor does it feel oily. I do prefer to use this at night because it is a cleansing oil (it just doesn't feel right to use in the morning, does it??) and it is a bit pricey so I want it to last. It did not break me out at all, and I was worried about this because I have had this problem in the past with natural skincare.

It does effectively remove my makeup (foundation, eyeshadow/liner) however it did have trouble removing my waterproof mascara. To be fair, it seems most cleansing oils cannot easily do this so I prefer to remove my mascara with an oil-based remover beforehand. I do double cleanse if wearing a heavier face of makeup (Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, for example) but when I don't have to I won't. I love the soft feeling this leaves on your skin. It won't dry my skin out afterwards and has so many power ingredients. I do not notice any line or wrinkle smoothing however.

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Eye Serum (15ml) $48 usd

This is a nicely scented serum with a light-weight texture. Designed to "help reduce signs of fatigue, combat fine lines, dehydration, dullness, and protect". Containing NaturevivePB18+, a blend of 18+ botanical extracts, essential fatty acids and vitamins to help combat aging. There are many beneficial ingredients such as Black Elder to reduce appearance of redness and soften, Calendula to soothe skin, Echinacea to help rebalance oiliness, Rosemary with skin restorative properties.

There are 3 "Active" Ingredients to energise. Wu-Zhu-Yu botanical to improve skin vitality and radiance, Persian Silk to protect from environmental aggressors and improve appearance of dark circles, and Sacchromyces Cerevisiae to prevent moisture loss.

The bottle is so cute, it is made of glass and has a weight to it. It comes with a pump and just feels very luxurious. The texture of the serum totally reminds me of my favourite, Estee Lauder Advanced Eye Repair Night Serum (reviewed here). I feel like I am getting quite similar results with this serum, and I would definitely consider is as a slightly less pricey alternative. I enjoy wearing this at night and it works well before makeup application as well. It feels so hydrating and refreshing on the skin, I often don't even bother to add a primer on top. It doesn't feel sticky or too thick, it is perfect for everyday use. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to help with my dark circles but it does hydrate and smooth out my under eye area very well.

INGREDIENTS
Aqua (Water), Propanediol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Silica, Ribes nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Oenothera biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Albizia julibrissin Bark Extract, Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel) Seed Extract, Chamomilla recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Althaea officinalis Root Extract, Spilanthes acmella Flower Extract, Rosa gallica Flower Extract, Calendula officinalis Flower Extract, Stellaria media (Chickweed) Extract, Echinacea purpurea Extract, Viola tricolor Extract, Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Bellis perennis (Daisy) Flower Extract, Lavandula angustifolia Flower Extract, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary ) Leaf Extract, Taraxacum officinale Extract, Sambucus nigra Flower Extract, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Arnica montana Flower Extract, Panax ginseng Root Extract, Euphrasia officinalis Extract, Evodia rutaecarpa Fruit Extract, Lithospermum erythrorhizon Root Extract, Saccharomyces cerevisiae Extract, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Lysolecithin, Sclerotium Gum, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Xanthan Gum, Pullulan, Totarol, Tocopherol, Fragrance/Parfum*, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenethyl Alcohol, SD Alcohol 40-A (Alcohol Denat.), Linalool*, Geraniol*, Citronellol*. *From Natural Essential Oil

After having great experience with these 2 from Jurlique, I definitely would purchase these products once finished, and I want to look into other products from the brand. The Cleansing Oil is a bit pricey for me but I can justify purchasing the Eye Serum for sure. I feel like I can strongly support the brand knowing how environmentally friendly and 'green' they are, and how beneficial the ingredients in their products are for the skin.Take a look at the Jurlique Story to learn a bit about the background of the brand. Would you dish out $$ for a natural cleansing oil? Do you regularly use an eye serum?

Spectro Combination Skin Cleanser + Moisturizer

spectro combination skin cleanser and moisturizer review

Spectro is an affordable, easy-to-find skincare line, that really gets overlooked. Its affordability can really scare us away from thinking it's a good product. I used Spectro as a young teen when I had acne problems, and it really worked well for my skin. I now have more of a combination skin type, so I received the newly packaged Combination Skin Cleaner and Moisturizer to test out.

Spectro has 3 lines for 3 different skin types. Combination, Dry, and Oily/Blemish-Prone Skin. All 3 cleansers come in a huge 500 ml size, but the Dry and Oily/Blemish-Prone cleansers do come in other sizes as well. All the moisturizers are non-comedogenic, won't clog pores, and contain a non-greasy formula to prevent irritation. Spectro also claims that their products are dermatologist recommended (which I do believe, since I was once recommended one of their products by a doctor).

spectro combination skin cleanser and moisturizer review

The Combination Skin Cleanser is designed to deep clean while maintaining the skin's natural moisture barrier. It is pH balanced, gentle, designed for sensitive skin, non-comedogenic + free from fragrance, dyes, sodium, sulphates, parabens, and lanolin.

While this cleanser does not feel like it does a deep clean, it is super gentle, non irritating, non drying, and there is no fragrance to it. It is a very simple cleanser, but it will not efficiently remove makeup, so that definitely will need to be done beforehand. I would recommend this cleanser for those with skin sensitive to fragrance, or any harsh ingredients. This is probably one of the best affordable cleanser I would recommend someone to purchase if they're on a budget! The 500 ml size is HUGE and I can see it lasting quite a while.

spectro combination skin cleanser and moisturizer review

The Spectro HydraCare Daily Moisturizer for Normal & Combination Skin is light, and ideal to wear at night or in the daytime. It works great under makeup and doesn't bring out my oily skin. It isn't greasy, and claims to not clog pores (which I don't feel like it does either). It absorbs quickly so I can prime and begin my makeup application right away. It's not shown here, but the box is a little scary and might make you think this is some type of medicated cream or something. It really isn't.. the ingredients are kept to a minimum and there is no scent to this moisturizer. A downside is that it doesn't contain SPF, but that gives me all the more reason to wear it both during the day and at night!

Overall, I would definitely purchase another cleanser and moisturizer from Spectro. As I mentioned, I have used them in the past and have never had a bad experience with their products.

Vichy Purete Thermale Cleansers & Micellar Oil Review

vichy purete thermale cleansers and micellar oil review

Hi Lovelies! You may have noticed I haven't posted in a little bit. I actually haven't had internet for a few weeks and took a bit of a break as well. I am happy to say that I will still be continuing reviews and will try to incorporate other posts as well! I said in the past that I wanted to expand on the blog, but as of now, I have decided to stick to beauty and skincare reviews :) Now onto my newest review!

As you know, I am a huge fan of Vichy. When asked my favourite skincare line, this is the first brand that pops into my head. They have so many product lines that are suitable for my skin type (sensitive) and are always innovating. I have here 2 new cleansing products of the Purete Thermale collection, and one that turns cleansing and toning into one step!

Vichy Purete Thermale:

•  Collection contains 11 cleansing products (as stated on the Canadian website). See rest of line here.

•  Highly concentrated with Vichy Thermal Spa Water
•  Suitable for all skin types
•  Respects the hydro-lipidic barrier
•  Hypoallergenic, Paraben-free, Dermatologically tested

vichy purete thermale fresh cleansing gel review

Vichy Purete Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel:
$19.95 for 200 ml

•  Contains Purisoft Technology (Moringa Seed Extract) to cleanse impurities, pollution particles, dust, excess sebum.
•  Reduces effect of hard water on the skin
•  Glycerine and amilite technology to cleanse without leaving skin tight

It is so hard to say much about a cleanser other than it works and leaves the skin feeling and smelling fresh afterwards. It is very gently foaming (don't expect a facial bubble bath or anything) and easy to rinse off. This is so ideal for morning showers as it is quick and will help reduce excess sebum from the night before. It will NOT really remove makeup and was not designed for that. You can see my test results at the end of this post.

Vichy Purete Thermale Beautifying Cleansing Micellar Oil:
$19.95 for 125 ml

Contains Micellar Technology + Camellia Oil

This is truely something different from Vichy. With all the new cleansing oils coming out on the market, I knew they had to get in the game! I am so in love with this cleansing micellar oil and it really makes taking off makeup a breeze! It gets just about everything and is quick and simple. I typically use two pumps, massage it onto my face (being cautious not to get it too close to my hair), add a bit of water to the hands and continue massaging then rinse.

The oil becomes milky once it comes in contact with water and my foundation comes off easily! Eyeshadow = no problem! It does remove mascara but takes a bit of rubbing and irritating of the eyes so I prefer to just use another makeup remover beforehand (if I have mascara on). I've used this on its own and no my skin does not feel dry afterwards, but I do prefer to use the Cleansing Gel right after.

vichy purete thermale one step cleanser sensitive skin 3 in 1 review

Vichy Purete Thermale 3-in-1 One Step Cleanser for Sensitive Skin:
$19.95 for 200 ml

•  Unique milk-gel texture to leave skin comfortable and non-greasy

This One Step Cleanser is the only one that let me down! I was under the impression it would remove makeup a lot better than it did. It does state that it is ideal for cleansing make-up for the face and eyes, and it does seem to (almost) do the job in my demonstration below, but the results just didn't live up to my expectations. It is definitely something to try out (samples at Shoppers Drug Mart anyone?); Maybe for someone who doesn't wear too much makeup, or those days when you are too lazy to tone and moisturize. I just prefer to take an extra step and use the Micellar Oil and Cleansing Gel together.

SWATCHED + TESTED
L to R: Fresh Cleansing Gel, Beautifying Micellar Oil, One Step Cleanser

vichy purete thermale cleansing gel beautifying micellar oil and 3 in 1 cleanser tested review

As you can see, the Beautifying Micellar Oil did the best job of removing the eyeliner and lip crayon swatches. The Fresh Cleansing Gel (on left) does not claim to remove makeup and it does need to be used with a makeup remover beforehand. The One Step Cleanser did ok, but just doesn't live up to my expectations when using it on a full face of makeup.

I don't think the prices are out of this world at all and definitely affordable for the average shopper. I would gladly purchase the Micellar Oil and Fresh Cleansing Gel. You can find Vichy Purete Thermale products at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada, Ulta in the US, FeelUnique online or in the UK.
