Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion and Recovery Emulsion

shiseido ultra sun protection lotion and recovery emulsion review

Discovering Shiseido's Ultra Sun Protection Lotion is probably a blessing in disguise! I had the opportunity to attend a Shiseido press event a while back and I was informed about how important it is to wear sunscreen. It was a bit of a reality check for me. I NEVER got into the habit of wearing sunscreen on my face, as I always found the formula was too thick, sticky, or broke me out. Not the case with this stuff here, I'm excited to tell you how much I love it!

shiseido ultra sun protection lotion s sensitive skin sunscreen review

Of course this guy is the star of this post! Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion S contains 50 SPF, is ideal for sensitive skin and children, and water resistant for 80 minutes. It is designed for both face and body, but the bottle is only 100ml so I'd like to use it sparingly and keep this for facial use only.

•  Free of parabens, alcohol, fragrance, UV absorbers
•  Non-comedogenic

Shiseido utilizes their new 'WetForce' technology with this baby, it contains the perfect UV protection that was patch tested on people with sensitive skin under dermatologist supervision. WetForce is designed to get stronger when encountering water or sweat, containing a stabilized form of Ionic Mineral Sensor. Basically, creating a highly water repellent layer.

This sunscreen is really a lifesaver for me! I've finally found something I feel comfortable wearing on a daily basis. It doesn't disrupt the way my makeup goes on because it's so light, doesn't make my face super oily, and the best part is that it doesn't break me out! Now for what it does do... it protects my skin from sunburn and I love how high the SPF is. It does leave a white cast and needs to be rubbed in quite a bit so I wouldn't wear this for a night out, obviously. And be sure to apply enough and continuously apply throughout the day if you are going to be spending the entire day in the sun!

shiseido after sun recovery emulsion review

The After Sun Intensive Recovery Emulsion is kind of an afterthought. It is lovely to have but I wouldn't purchase this on it's own! If it came in a kit or set I would be delighted to have it. It is light, smells great, and feels slightly cooling on the skin. It soothed my burns on my shoulders where I didn't apply enough sunscreen. I do love the texture, the scent, and everything about this emulsion, except the price!

Benefits:
•  It penetrates quickly to relieve sun-stressed skin
•  Rehydrates to fight dryness and peeling
•  Contains Thiotaurine to help combat environmental factors
•  Improves and prolongs look of a tan

Top: Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion S,
Bottom Left: Shiseido After Sun Intensive Recovery Emulsion

I am 100% going to repurchase the Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion S. It works great for my skin and I've yet to find anything quite similar to it. The price is a little high at $49 CAD for 100ml, but I am fine with it considering it works and doesn't break me out. The After Sun Intensive Recovery Emulsion is amazing, but the price just sort of scares me away! It is $38 CAD for 150ml and it's hard to convince someone to purchase this alone especially considering most people just resort to the use of our trusty old friend, aloe gel!

Live Clean Hair Heroes: Keratin Oil, Argan Oil, Apple Cider

live clean hair heroes review

Live Clean is a hair and skincare brand that you can likely find at your local drugstore or big box store in Canada. All of the 3 lines contain plant and natural ingredients (shampoos are 98% plant derived, conditioners are 96%), SLS/Sulfate Free, Paraben Free, Phthalate and Phosphate Free, Pure Vegan and Vegetarian; Cruelty Free, Biodegradable Ingredients and are in Recyclable Packaging. Phew! You can say they put a lot of thought and effort into building their brand as natural and vegan free as possible, while maintaining affordable price points.

I was recently sent 3 different sets from Live Clean's list of top sellers, their "Haircare Heroes"! The Keratin Oil, Argan Oil, and Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo/Conditioners.

It is super hard to review shampoo and conditioners, especially when dealt with so many and so little time to try them all! I tried my best to make this short and sweet, and give you the gist on the 3 lines and how they benefit the hair differently.

-

Keratin Oil Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner: This line works to maintain frizz and reduce split ends. The Keratin Shampoo gently cleanses, restores, and helps straighten hair. They are both deeply hydrating and contain Phyto-Keratin blended into the Brazillian Buriti Oil. The line also contains Macadamia Nut Oil to repair hair. Both the shampoo and conditioner smell amazingly of pineapple (to me, not sure if my scent buds are off).

Argan Oil Restorative Shampoo & Conditioner: The Argan Oil line prides itself on re-nourishing, replenishing, and restoring. The shampoo and conditioner are both rich is essential fatty acids and ideal to hydrate and nourish without the extra weight. The Argan Oil is 100% pure, and the shampoo/condt. also contain Certified Grape Seed and Olive Oil to protect against UV damage.

I loved using both the Keratin Oil and the Argan Oil sets. I would totally repurchase conditioners again but the shampoos were a little too heavy for my liking! Not to say they weren't awesome, the ingredients are amazing, but I have very thin hair and love to use a volumizing shampoo saving heavier conditioners for the ends. I can see myself using the conditioners regularly.

Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo & Ultra Light Conditioner: This is by far my favourite set out of the line. A little biased because I've bought the Clarifying Shampoo in the past and therefore I've had a much longer time to test it out. It removes any old product build-up in my hair and I feel safe using it on my hair and it smells amazing, just like apple cider and no hint of vinegar! The only downside is it can leave the hair feeling a little dull or dry! I try to focus it only on my roots however and use it weekly or even less. The conditioner is pretty basic to me. It is very light which I love! I don't find it conditions very well though because of how light it is so I'd prefer to pair the Clarifying Shampoo with something a little more nourishing like the Keratin or Argan Oil Conditioner.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Live Clean to a friend. I think they are probably of of the most affordable, if not the cheapest, drugstore haircare line with natural, friendly ingredients! I am not afraid to use any of their products and have a ton of trust in the brand. I would say they are 100% one of the best places to start if you are looking to use products without sulfates.

All of the shampoo and conditioners are 350 ml sized (typically) and retail for about $6.99 CAD each. I believe I have seen them for less at big box superstores like Walmart though! Live Clean is otherwise available at Shoppers Drug Mart and Walmart in the GTA, and Lawtons Drugs, London Drugs, Safeway, Sobey's East, and Uniprix in the rest of Canada.

You can find the rest of their line and more product info on their website here, and if you can't find their products in stores you can shop online in Canada on well.ca.
