Blinc Discovery Collection

blinc box discovery collection review

I have the most stubborn eyes and lashes, so I tend to only wear waterproof or water resistant products near my eyes. I almost always have to touch up my makeup a few hours into my day. When I found out that Blinc (a brand I've been interested in but have never tried before) launched a Discovery Collection consisting of 'Life Proof' cosmetics, I was super curious to try!

Blinc's Discovery Collection consists of their Mascara Amplified, Eyebrow Mousse, Eyeshadow Primer, and Eyeliner Pencil. Their box set claims to be 'Life Proof', as in smudgeproof, run proof and flake proof. It contains mini sizes of 4 of the most important eye makeup essentials you need.

The set comes packaged in a box, which reminds me of beauty boxes subscriptions that I used to subscribe to! All 4 of the products are mini sized and come in their own colourful tubes with a twist off lid. The packaging is so fun, but sadly I don't see myself putting the gorgeous tubes to use ever again. I wish I knew another purpose for them!

The Discovery Collection only comes in one variation.. which sucks for those who have darker eyebrows or skin-tone as the Light Brunette Eyebrow Mousse and the Eyeshadow Primer in Light may be too light.

Blinc's Mascara Amplified is probably the star of this collection. The mascara has a unique formula that is water resistant, but will remove with water and a rubbing action simultaneously. The mascara has a different kind of formula which clings onto the hairs creating 'tubes' which help to lengthen and thicken the lashes. The stuff itself is really innovative and the removal application is so easy and cool! However the applicator brush is a little large. The mascara and brush itself does grab hairs quite well.

It didn't hold my curl as well as I had hoped, as the formula isn't as heavy or thick as a typical waterproof mascara formula that I'm used to wearing. I actually found removing it pretty fun. A little rubbing and water and it comes off! I've never tried a formula like this one.

The Eyebrow Mousse in the Discovery Collection comes in Light Brunette, and I found the colour to be just that, a Light Brunette-sort-of-Taupe shade. I love eyebrow mousses but the problem I have with this product is the brush!! Urghh!! It is so huge, and I can barely get the product onto my lashes. Instead, I have to really get in there and the mousse ends up sitting on the skin under my brow hairs instead. -__- Frustrating! I think this would work much much better with a thinner wand.

The Eye Shadow Primer has a bit of colour, so it isn't universal like Urban Decay's. It is not oily but goes smoothly onto the lid. It conceals any problem areas or darkness on the lid and leaves you with a gorgeous base to apply eyeshadow to. It dries almost instantly and it holds eyeshadow decently well. This wouldn't be my #1 eyeshadow primer choice but I definitely do like it and will continue using it. It brightens up the eye because the shade is lighter than my skin-tone. It also conceals any darkness or discolouration on the eyelids.

Although I don't use Eyeliner Pencil's much because my eyes are sensitive to tugging and pulling so I prefer liquid, this one is probably most ideal for the waterline. It isn't so creamy that it'll wear off but it goes on gently. It also claims to be waterproof, fade, and smudge-proof.

Overall I had fun with the discovery box and it is totally worth it for someone like me who wears this type of eye makeup. Hask Hair: Keratin Protein & Almond Oil

hask hair keratin protein and almond oil review

Hask is a hair care line that focuses on bringing together 'good for your hair' ingredients to treat and protect hair for a decent price! What stands out about their products is that they are free of sulphates, parabens, phthalates, artificial colours, alcohol, and gluten! Their product line currently consist of Argan Oil, Macadamia Oil, Almond Oil, Monoi Coconut Oil, Charcoal with Citrus Oil, Bamboo Oil, Kalahari Melon Oil, and Keratin Protein Oil. I was sent their Keratin Protein Shampoo, Conditioner, their Almond Oil Root Thickening Spray, and Macadamia Oil Conditioning Treatment to test, and *spoiler* I had a super great experience with all of the products!

hask hair keratin protein and almond oil review

The Keratin Protein Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner ($6.99 USD each) is designed to "soften and renew weak and damaged hair. It will leave hair smooth, shiny and frizz-free, and repair damage and reduce breakage." I can't use this religiously because it doesn't give me enough volume, but I love the results of my hair after using it. The scent isn't sweetest but I do like the promises this duo makes! My hair is soft and shiny after using it.

hask hair mint almond oil root thickening spray review

The Mint Almond Oil Root Thickening Spray really impressed me. It smells exactly as described, like mint almond, and it is designed to "restore volume while adding nourishing shine". I was impressed at how this actually worked at adding a bit of volume, without making my roots sticky or feeling gross. It is wonderful to use when hair is damp and definitely works, I would totally purchase this as I am always looking for products to increase volume!

hask hair macadamia oil conditioning treatment review

Hask's Macadamia Oil Hydrating Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment is the last product I tried. I personally put this off for a while because I hate packet products. But the scent is sooo lovely I wish I'd tried it sooner! Macadamia Oil is mainly used to repair damage by absorbing, penetrating, and sealing the hair. There is a lot of product in this and it definitely can be used more than once. I have for sure spot this in Walmart Canada for probably around $3-4 bucks. The other products I haven't seen on shelves, but I am hopeful they will become more accessible for Canadians very soon.

I was very impressed with the HASK Hair products I tried and I would totally purchase them when I run out. They contain ingredients that are totally okay for use on the hair and I love how affordable their products are. Check out Hask Beauty for more details on their various product lines, and for Canadians Well.ca to shop some of their products.
